I only saw her appear from across the heath
A little engineered, if mellifluously
Since I moved into the big city
I've been climbing through the wreckage
where I shelter in the scree

But you can only go back to what you want to be
The only satisfaction is that the world just doesn't care
I'd saunter around as if her gaze were there
But I never heard the sound of her voice ring more than fair

While I never caught the bow hook of her stare
There were blooms throughout the tare & I left my Arabel
I looked to the bottom of every dried up well
& I let the wind blow me through the fell

In the closeness of the vale she said you never quite can tell
I tried to low the shale to find old lusts that were bestrown
From the roofs down through the tell
obscure desire was left exposed
The carillon rang like knells & the gates no longer closed

Secondhand evidence spends better than bestowed
Her fey air soon cloyed & I trod the streets till the break of day
What's needed to be explained might just as easily be inveighed
Curses come as blessings but you feed them anyway

The morning came with a numbing sense of a deprecating haze
It took cunning logic to keep me convinced I'd spared my faculties
Through puzzlement & an animal's sense of wanting what it needs
Such a meager recompense for such threatricality
